Magic – from Witchcraft to Modern Illusion Shows

Magic – once also called sorcery or witchcraft – describes the secret art of using supernatural or mysterious powers. Traditionally, rituals, symbols and objects were employed in social or religious contexts to gain special power.

This must be distinguished from today’s performing art of magic: a modern stage art performed by magicians or illusionists. They use sleight of hand, illusion and technology to amaze audiences and create the impression of the impossible becoming real.

Whether it is a classic magic show, an illusion act in a variety theatre, or a modern production with multimedia and projection – magic today is synonymous with entertainment, fascination and wonder.
