Electric violin, short electric violin, is a string instrument whose sound is electrically amplified. Most electric violin refers to a string instrument with an arbitrarily shaped solid body, so a solid string carrier that does not serve as a resonator, but transmits the string vibrations to an electric pickup. In addition, electric violin can also designate an acoustic violin whose sounds are electrically amplified. Electric violins are mainly used outside of classical music in many genres, including rock or metal bands, jazz and fusion
An electric violin often has a special look that is different from that of a classical violin. Since the generation of the sound is no longer necessarily bound to the body of the instrument, this can be built artistically and varied. For example, models exist in the form of an “S” or a dollar sign “$”. On the other hand, other models look almost like acoustic violins, with only recesses on each side, so the instrument looks very slim and powerful. Electric violins are often used primarily in contemporary music as experimental instruments and are less common there than electric guitar and e-bass. Therefore, there are also many different variations of the electric violin: for example, with frets, more than four strings, a machine head, baritone strings that sound one octave lower than normal, or resonating strings.
