The term contortion (snake woman gebr.) describes a form of artistry in which the performer twists or bends the body into a position in which most people seem to be inaccessible. The contortionist is often seen as a solo performance in the circus and caused a sensation in the late 1980s at the Roncalli Circus when the first Mongolian contortionists showed themselves as a group. Here, fantastic images of bodies embracing each other in symbiosis with the costume were created. A contortionist is either trained from infancy and must overstretch daily, or the performer has an innate ability and unusual agility. This art form is very unique and can only be achieved with very hard training. Each of these special artists performs a hard physical training to be able to twist so effortlessly in all directions.
